"Family life is very important to me. My mom and dad both work from home, so that makes us all very close because we spend so much time together.
Honesty and integrity are important to me. Once during my regular season this past year one of my teammates received an error that should have been mine. I went to the coach after the game and let him know so they wouldn't charge it to the wrong guy. I think it's important to always tell the truth and keep the books fair, even if it is not in my favor, because character matters.
I think hard work is important, in baseball and in life. If you don't work for what you have then you won't really appreciate it as much as you will when you earn it. Put in hard work on the field or in the gym and it will pay off in the game. Put in hard work at whatever you do and it will pay off in life.
Baseball is important to me because I love it, but I also enjoy teaching it. I have groups of elementary and junior high age students that I coach, mentor, and work with regularly on their fielding, hitting, and mechanics throughout the year. This keeps me working hard on my own skill set but also gives me a chance to pass my love for the game on to younger kids who want to put in the work to become better."
"I have been coaching high school baseball for over 30 years, and Simon is one of the most talented defensive players I have ever coached He works hard each and every day. He has a goal to be the best player HE can be, and it shows in his work. He is a quiet leader on and off the field. He excels academically and athletically. He is one of the most "coachable" kids I have ever worked with. I believe Simon will play college baseball and excel at it. He has started every game for us as a freshman and a sophomore. The sky is the limit with Simon as I believe we will see him emerge as one of our best hitters, pitchers, and defensive players! His character is tremendous as well. He never complains, leads with his actions, and shows a very high level of spiritual maturity. I am blessed to be his high school coach."
"Simon is a remarkably talented true middle-infielder. I've not seen hands as smooth or as quick on very many occasions...and certainly not by a junior in high school. He is gifted enough defensively to play at the college level today. As far as a person, I can't say enough about Simon. What a wonderful young man to coach and to be around. Coaches love him, teammates love him, little kids love him. He's just a fantastic kid. I know that he donates a lot of time to teaching and coaching little kids. I really don't know how a baseball coach could get any better combination of player and human being than Simon."
